The Unseen Work behind the Song
I've been singing since
the age of 6, and for a long time, it felt as natural as breathing. Tunes just
seemed to flow out of me effortlessly, and everyone around me praised my
"talent." Looking back, I think that praise, and the ease with which
I sang, really shaped my early attitude.
I'll admit it: I often
skipped rehearsals. When I did show up, my mind was usually elsewhere. Lyrics?
Song arrangements? They didn't seem to matter much to me then. This casual
approach, unfortunately, led to some pretty shoddy performances. But in my
youthful arrogance, I never really stopped to consider the impact. The
nervousness on stage was constant, and I never learned to truly command a
performance.
It wasn't until I
started missing out on opportunities – chances to grow, to perform on bigger
stages, to truly develop my craft – that reality hit. That's when I finally
began to rethink my attitude towards singing and started taking
my rehearsals and repertoire seriously. It turns out, talent isn't just about
what comes naturally; it's about the dedication and discipline
you pour into it.
